Referendum Renewal Fast Fact - Student Supports

What was it like to be a teacher in Avon Schools in the years before and after voters approved the 2018 Operating Referendum

"Because of the instruction and small class sizes, we believe that's why our oldest kids have chosen to attend Butler University. It mirrors [their experience in Avon Schools]. We're so grateful to Avon not only [for how they cared for our son when he was fighting cancer], but also for all the opportunities. It has allowed our whole family to call Avon home," (Amy Adams).

"In 2009 the district had to pivot due to [changes in] property tax caps. I was teaching when the first referendum failed in 2011. The result? Significant cuts. Jobs were lost and student opportunities were reduced. ... The students who were in school during that period, they suffered. Class sizes ballooned and extracurricular programs were scaled back. ... It made it incredibly difficult to provide all that our students deserved. But yet they fought hard and I was proud to say that I got to watch that every single day. In 2018, the community passed the operating referendum and it was a game changer," (Scott Adams).
