Celebrating Avon's IREAD Results

Celebrating Avon's IREAD Results

The numbers are in from the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE), and Avon Community School Corporation's third grade students rocked IREAD last spring!

Chart showing Avon's 3rd grade IREAD results at 94%.

Avon's third grade students have made rapid progress the last few years. Thanks to the hard work of our students and their teachers, their 2026 performance was nearly off the chart.

"We are making some good progress," notes Director of Elementary Teaching & Learning Jenny Shayotovich. "We've got to get past 95% this year," she said, referring to IDOE's goal that 95% of Indiana's third grade students pass this standardized test. (Across the state, 88.7% of third grade students passed the exam last school year.)

Cause for celebration

Not only does huge credit belong to each educator and student who worked so hard, the community deserves immense gratitude. Last fall, two-thirds of Avon-Washington Township voters supported our referendum renewal, allowing us to maintain the small class sizes and supports that are helping our students succeed.

"Just this week, IREAD scores became public," said Avon Schools Superintendent Dr. Scott Wyndham in an email to employees. "As a district, 94% of our students passed. This is well above the state average of 89%, and almost to the state's goal of 95% (in fact, Cedar, Hickory, and River Birch hit or surpassed the 95% goal).

Way to go, students. Way to go, educators. Way to go, Avon.

This school year, let's strive for 95!
